Dr. Christopher Lanz resigned from his position as the conductor of the Crane Symphony Orchestra Tuesday, May 5. "I want to advocate as much as possible in favor of Dr. Lanz," said Ryan Taussig, junior music education major. Taussig is a student of Lanz.
Last week was an important time on the SUNY Potsdam campus: students of Louise Tyo's "Gay and Lesbian Communication" class collaborated and successfully worked to raise awareness of the daily struggles that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) students are faced with.
As of April 10, 199 students owe at least $500 to SUNY Potsdam, which may have bigger effects than holds on their accounts. The Office of Student Accounts will generate an updated report, on May 10, and those student accounts, with the exception of students who have made arrangements with the Office of Student Accounts, will be turned over to the attorney general for collections, Director of Student Accounts Susan Kirwan said.
Dr. Patricia Whelehan, of SUNY Potsdam's anthropology department, published two textbooks this year. One, co-written with Dr. Anne Bolin of Elon University, is a new version of an existing piece, while the other stands as a unique work in the field of HIV/AIDS education.
As the swine flu pandemic circulates, communities locally and globally are preparing to quell the spread of the virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been 642 cases of the swine flu in the United States, but only two cases, both in Texas, have been fatal.
