The English Writing faculty hosted the Write O'Rama, an open house featuring SUNY Potsdam writing majors and minors, in the Fireside lounge November 12. Games, music and a quiz about the personal lives of the writing faculty were only a few of the draws for students who were interested in what the English department has to offer.
The College Writing Center hosted the second of four creative writing faculty readings on Thursday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m., featuring Stephanie Coyne DeGhett and Alan Steinberg. The Writing Center was full of students and faculty eager for the event. Some (including myself for most of the night) had to stand half in the door and half in the hallway, or connected room just to listen.
It is not uncommon to find students conversing about how easy a college SUNY Potsdam is. However, the campus continues to provide many great opportunities for an affordable price compared to some private universities in the area. While we are currently feeling the heat of a six million dollar budget cut for the 2009-2010 school year, SUNY tuition rates continue to be less expensive than other academic institutions'.
On any given morning, look around and you will see bleary-eyed students rushing to class with books, bags, and the all-important coffee. However, coffee is not the only source of caffeine consumed on campus. Energy drinks such as Red Bull or Monster are also popular.
Weary and bleary-eyed, people file into the reclusive basement. The light flickers on, and coffee begins to brew as these people prepare for the day. It's a typical beginning to the day in Bowman Kitchen and Bakery, where food from PACES is prepared and sent to dining halls.
In the October 30 issue of The Racquette, I invited readers to sound off about the ROTC program available through Clarkson University. Sadly, I did not get any responses. Considering America's controversial involvement overseas, I figured our student body would eagerly jump at the chance to voice their opinions.
