Usually when I think of percussion, I think of it being the heartbeat or rhythm of other instruments, and never really picture it being featured on its own. However, the Crane Repertory Percussion Ensemble completely opposes that assumption, as they stole the Snell stage last Friday with a nothing short of amazing performance.

The first song, "Three for Three" was a great way to start off the concert, featuring nothing but three drum sets. The songs featuring marimba, "Rag Time Robin" and "Rainbow Ripples" were also great, with a very light and animated feel. The final two songs, "Swords of Modaling" and "Jesus Christ Superstar Medley" had the most percussionists and were definitely the most interesting. They featured everything from gongs to timpani to bells. "Jesus Christ Superstar Medley" was by far my favorite piece of the afternoon, featuring bits from almost all the songs from the musical.

All and all, the Crane Repertory Percussion Ensemble put on an excellent performance. The fact that it was entirely student run and conducted made it ten times more impressive as well.
