Guitarist Gabriel Marin performs on a double-neck fretless guitar, which allows for smooth pitch bends like those often found in Indian music on sitar or chaturangui while still maintaining the familiar timbre of a Western electric guitar. John Ferrara covers everything from relaxed root notes to furious slap techniques on four and five-string basses. Justin Ahiyon rounds out the trio with all things percussion. The vast majority of his playing takes place on a drum set though he also makes use of a variety of ethnic percussion and electronic samples.
The band members have traveled throughout the world to experience the music of various cultures first-hand. They manage to seamlessly incorporate these influences into music that is nothing short of genre-bending.
Regardless of your musical preferences, Consider the Source is a band that you won't want to pass up the opportunity to witness in live performance. The musicians are masters of non-verbal communication and spontaneity as well as composition.
Consider the Source will be performing an evening of original music at Hurley's Nightclub (located underneath the Lehman Dining Center) on Friday, May 8. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the music will begin at 7:30 p.m. The show is free for SUNY Potsdam students and $3 for the general public.
