A response to UP rant

I have to give you credit Jared. You were honest enough to admit that being asked to douse your fire was understandable in light of a county-wide burn ban. You just didn't like the way you were spoken to. You feel you deserve more respect. And since you didn't receive the level of courtesy you warrant as a human being, then your natural conclusion is that the University Police department is corrupt. They are gleefully abusing their power as University Police Officers'. Your one bad experience not only erases all the good the University Police Department has done; but it points out a desperate need for civic overhaul. Never mind the victims whose property was returned, or the victims that were served and protected on a daily basis. No, this is about you Jared. Clearly, you should seek public office as soon as you graduate. Your collegiate perspective and cutting edge solutions are desperately needed by the entire nation---not just SUNY Potsdam.
You are probably the same person that, when he can't find a parking space or you carelessly leave your property unattended and it gets stolen, complains that there are no police when you need them. To you the police are only needed when the laws and rules they enforce don't directly affect you.
After reading your biased opinion, so obviously motivated by a wounded ego, I am left wondering what you will do the next time your feelings get hurt. Perhaps the question should be: Who keeps you in check?

Derek, It seems like you have a problem with anyone who doesn't have the same view as you do. I am leaning towards Jared's opinion, the UP seems excessive on this campus or at least they have too much time on their hands. I understand we need a constant presence of the UP on campus but there are too many of them for their level of responsibility, that there is nothing for them to do other than give out pointless tickets. Your love affair with UP has won you the opportunity to be tried in a civil libel suit because all the personal attacks you have lain on Jared's character! Looking back, Derek, I find that your philosophy on matters ado with opinion is... totally screwed up.
Weren't you the one advocating for the censorship of the Racquette because of Jared's rant? And the Seussical review? Weren't those published articles merely their opinions, as well?

OMG! UP has helped me and a lot of people I know a ton of times. I don't blame the whole departmant because of one or two jerks. What if UP did the same thing and blamed all students for something just a few did. (Continued…)
