Both houses in SGA met this week after a hiatus due to most of the executive board and some assembly members going to the ASGA conference in Dallas, TX.

In the Senate and Assembly, a student approached the shell proposing the ideas of a Guardian Angels system to be implemented on the streets of Potsdam. The system would involve Greek life standing watch at designated spots around town to prevent violence and keep students safe.

Ruth Policella also talked the Senate and Assembly about Winterfest and encouraged any clubs wishing to hold an event to contact her at policera@potsdam.edu. She also discussed the Spring Leadership Conference, where many educational workshops will be held. The conference will also feature alumni speaker Donna Lynn Schuster.

President Danielle McMullen reported that SUNY Oswego has passed a resolution recognizing the successful and fruitful relationship they have with SUNY Potsdam. She indicated that our SGA is drafting a similar resolution to reciprocate.

Vice President Joshua Rich discussed the trip to the ASGA conference. He also updated SGA members on the situation with the Bear Express machines around town- PACES is looking into purchasing a second modem to speed up transactions. He also announced that the Textbook Task Force has drafted a policy indicating that members of faculty are now required to submit their textbook orders by a certain date or they will be in violation of college policy and be subject to disciplinary action.

Comptroller Geoffrey VanderWoude announced that the SGA auction will take place in the spring.

Both the Senate and the Assembly passed bill 0908, a bill calling for a trial Free STI Testing Program. The program will be implemented soon.

Bill 0909 was brought up and tabled in both houses. This is a bill for Gymnastics Club requesting funds to certify some of their members as instructors so that they will be in compliance with new SGA policies concerning high-risk clubs.
