So as of this morning there are to be six more weeks of winter. Anyone up here knows that's being cute. Today, February 2, was a relatively balmy twenty-three, compared to the recent below 0 we've been having. Fortunately, while the North Country lies in deep frost, campus events are just warming up. The English and Communication Student Organization had its second meeting on Monday January 1. After a week of open nominations, Patrick Harris was made president, while Brian Halvey was elected to serve as Vice President. Heather Horning is the new Secretary of the organization and Marissa Richardson is the new Treasurer. Meetings for ECSO are every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Morey student lounge.
Last semester, the Poetry Slam, which was held in conjunction with SES at Hurleys, turned into the most profound event we've ever held. Needless to say, we will be holding it again. The event generated a lot of interest and some very impressive competition. In addition, we are looking at new events to hold this spring, including a possible memorial service for Joss Whedon's most recent dearly departed, Dollhouse. A mixer will be held Wednesday, February 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Thatcher Hall above Dexter's, to accommodate multiple schedule blocks and make the event open to the most people. ECSO is missing some of its new members from last year. We miss you! In addition, we are looking forward to drawing enthusiasm from anyone who is interested in the English language, whether it is how to speak it, write it or how it is employed in all aspects of our life. Everything is language and communication, just as everything is mathematics. Therefore, nothing is out of bounds. We are an organization that needs good ideas and enthusiastic people.
