After playing a tough first half, with both teams tied at 33, it looked as though the Bears would avenge their loss earlier this season to the Bengals in Buffalo. Definitely TV ready, Olando Minott and Benjamin Walker both scored 8 first half points to lead the Bears.
The close first half continued into the second half. Both teams went back and forth until Buffalo State took a 13 point lead with about four minutes left in the game. From there, the Bengals were able to hold the Bears off from coming back by not allowing the lead to drop under 8 points.
Olando Minott finished the game with 15 points, leading the Bears. Anthony Williams Jr. recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Curtis Pierce and Benjamin Walker also scored in the double figures.
Buffalo State was lead by Antonio Samedi and Jake Simmons who combined for 31 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard/foward Justin Mitchell played an impresive game scoring a game high of 19 points.
The next day our Bears faced the Fredonia Blue Devils. With more than a dozen alumni in attendance, Potsdam gave one of their best efforts of the season. The final score of the game was 58-53 and was probably as exciting a game as any other one the Bears have had this season.
Playing without their star freshman Curtis Pierce, the Bears faired very well against the Blue Devils, who are a team that played against Division-I power Davidson earlier this year. It was a close game the whole way through, with clutch shots being the theme of the afternoon. Both teams kept going shot for shot until Jonathan Herrera knocked down a huge three-pointer with only 19 seconds left in regulation.
Again the Bears were lead by Anthony Williams Jr. with 15 points and five rebounds. The only other Bear to reach double figures was Josh Lambert with 13 points.
On the other side, Julius Bryant lead the Blue Devils with 20 points.
The Bears are preparing to play Cortland and Oswego this upcoming weekend. With two wins and an Oswego loss to Plattsburgh, the Bears will be only one spot out of the SUNYAC playoffs.
