The Potsdam Bears (9-14-2) had their playoff hopes come to a sudden halt with a 3-0 defeat at Brockport (14-11-1).

Although Bears Head Coach, Chris Bernard, didn't have any expectations in this season's playoffs, he knew that all of the disappointing losses, including two of the last three regular season games after having a lead in the second period, would have an impact on the outcome of their season. "It makes you look back at the ones that got away," said Coach Bernard in his first season here at SUNY Potsdam. "We may have to feel the pain of those losses all over again."

The theme for the Bears at the end of the year was coming out of the gates playing hard-nosed hockey, firing on all cylinders. However, their main problem at the end of the year was that they could not do this over the course of an entire game.

"We were a more than capable team, but if we're going to be successful, we have to find a way to play all 60 minutes of the game," said Coach Bernard.

The Bears making the SUNYAC playoffs for the second time in three years under a new head coach does speak a lot towards the team adjusting well to a new regime.

"We've got the personnel on this hockey team to be a grinding, hard-working team," said departing senior captain Connor Treacy.

Unfortunately for Treacy and fellow departing senior, forward Mitch West, they missed out on another chance to make a playoff run. On the other hand, for Treacy, who leaves Potsdam with 126 total points (52 goals, 74 assists) and nothing but fond memories.

"I have had a great four years here," said Treacy after senior night this past Friday at Maxcy Hall. "You just have to soak it all in and enjoy it."

For the Bears, the end of the season came very quick and wasn't finished on a high note. However, there's no question that with the team returning all but two players next season, there is always a hope for a different outcome for next year and beyond.

There's a motto for the men's hockey team that they follow which will determine how successful they can be in the near and distant future; "Commitment. Discipline. Integrity."
